Exercises for the new rule with free hits within the 23
We are in the last week of our season in oz, so we have had the new rules for 15 weeks. I coach juniors and its fair to say they have struggled with not being able to pass into the D directly. We have worked on them to KISS, they must get set quickly and check for a sideways, backwards pass quickly and then take on the D looking the beat a marker ideally inside the circle to get a corner. Best drill is a one on one from a standing start empahsing beat one player then look to pass rather than shoot in D. Umpires particularly in lower grades get very picky about taking the ball back to precise spot but we encourage the kids to just go for it when they are ready, the element of surprise is vital. ... Generally for juniors though it slows up the game and it's not much of an advantage to the attacking team.
What you say:![]() I am one of the senior coaches at East Grinstead Hockey Club and I have been involved with junior coaching at the Club for many years. We have used the Sportplan website and software since their inception and they represent an invaluable tool that is available for use by our team of coaches at all levels. We are also very grateful for the assistance we have received from the Sportplan team over the years and would recommend any hockey club or hockey coach to subscribe to use these services which are practical and user-friendly. |
