how to tackle in field hockey
put your stick in the way of the ball and capture it on the toe of your stick while the attacker goes by. You take the ball right out from under the attacker, they you will have possession try also just firmly pushing your stick in to the ball (not the attackers stick as it will give away a penalty to them) trying to get into the attackers foot and get the penalty. hope this helps!
Because players can go either way & often go betwen your legs start with the stick there & then angle your body guiding the player (like a Matador) in the direction that is least dangerous. Watch only the ball & intercept quickly & smoothly when its within reach, be patient & be ready for second tackle with good footwork & bodywork if needed.
What you say: I don't know what I did when developing hockey coaching sessions before I had sportplan! |
